This 16-hour TCOLE course (#2107, an Intermediate Core course required for the Intermediate Proficiency Certificate) gives Texas peace officers a complete working knowledge of the statutory authority for force under Penal Code Chapter 9, the force options from command presence through deadly force, the constitutional standards that govern deadly force — including Barnes v. Felix (2025) and Case v. Montana (2026) — what happens to an officer and an agency after a shooting, and the criminal, civil-tort, §1983, vicarious-liability and defense issues that follow an improper use of force. It is written for licensed Texas peace officers and anyone who wants to understand how force decisions are judged. To earn credit you must complete every module and its knowledge checks and pass the final exam.
