This 8-hour elective continuing-education course refreshes the practical skills Texas peace officers, jailers and telecommunicators use on mental-health calls: recognizing mental illness, intellectual and developmental disability, substance-induced crisis and suicide risk; de-escalating with time, distance and cover; applying emergency detention without a warrant under Health and Safety Code Chapter 573 as amended in 2025; using mental-health warrants, jail diversion, LMHAs, mobile crisis teams and 988; and documenting the call. It is an elective refresher reported under TCOLE #3375 and does not satisfy the legislatively mandated 40-hour Crisis Intervention Training (#1850) or the classroom-only CIT Refresher (#3843). To earn credit you must complete all nine modules, work the field scenarios, and pass the graded final test.
