COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The student will be exposed to simulated incidents that will require de-escalation and may involve the use of force, including deadly force.  Students will be expected to use the least amount of reasonable force necessary to de-escalate the scenario.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. The student will demonstrate the reasonable use of officer presence/verbal commands in response to the on-screen suspect’s actions.

  2. The student will demonstrate the reasonable use of less-lethal force in response to the on-screen suspect’s actions.

  3. The student will demonstrate the reasonable use of deadly force in response to the on-screen suspect’s actions.

  4. The student will experience dealing with stressful, dangerous situations that the student may not have encountered in real-world situations.

  5. The student will apply theoretical knowledge of the force continuum to the simulated incidents and gain experience beneficial in real-world situations. The student will demonstrate good judgement in applying the correct level of force during the simulated incidents.

  6. The student will identify and respond appropriately to pre-attack indicators.

  7. The student will demonstrate their knowledge of lawful uses of force by a post event analysis of simulated calls for service.
