COURSE OVERVIEW: Classen Buck Seminars Inc in partnership with Training 9-1-1 Heroes brings this course to our members. This course was designed for telecommunication officers, however it is available to all users.
Every 11 minutes, someone dies from an opioid overdose. Opioids do not discriminate, killing infants to the elderly. Early intervention with naloxone can save lives, but first, ECPs must recognize a potential opioid overdose.
In this course, the students will be able to differentiate between opiates and opioids, explain the factors leading to the opioid epidemic, discuss the role of fentanyl in the opioid epidemic, list the signs of a potential opioid overdose, be able to explain the proper way to administer naloxone, discuss the benefits of good Samaritan Drug Laws, recognize calls for a potential drug overdose, explain techniques to calm callers reporting a drug overdose, and ensure responder safety for calls involving opioids.
LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 Hours
TARGET AUDIENCE: Telecommunicators and/or any user interested in this topic
PASS RATE: Students must score 75% on the knowledge checkpoints and 80% on the final examination.
